There are plenty of examples of annoying packaging designs, but one that rears its ugly, frustrating head every holiday season is candy cane wrappers. The plastic film clings tightly around the crook-shaped sweets, and there’s no easy way to unsheathe these traditional candies.
Biting them off isn’t that easy to do, plus any errant saliva makes a sticky mess, and don’t even think about peeling them with your fingernails either. One could just savagely break the cane and pull off the plastic film, but then you have two pieces of candy, and what’s the fun in that?
Brach’s, which makes a lot of candy canes, has come up with a patent-pending solution for this candy cane conundrum, announcing the “cane opener.” The device is simple to operate: insert the candy cane into the instrument, then slide it back out, and Brach’s new contraption does all the work.
