The steam locomotive whistle is one of the great sounds in this world. No, I don’t have an obsession with trains, but the noise itself is rich with romance, great expectations, and possibility. Stick ’em on Amtrak trains, and you’d probably have more folks travelling by rail. 

Of course, I never associated those lonesome whistles with beer, despite listening to plenty of Hank Williams for years and years. But now that I’ve learned about the existence of Canadian craft brewer Steam Whistle, that’s very likely to change. With their recent redesign, performed entirely in-house, that feeling of locomotive mystique is on full display, and it made for a natural shoe-in for our September 2025 Pack of the Month.

We spoke with creative director Ashley Ray about how they dusted off their original logos and kept their super ownable green.
